Should the CIA be allowed to imprison and question suspected terrorists?

An Italian judge recently convicted twenty-three Americans, most of them agents with the Central Intelligence Administration (CIA), of kidnapping a suspected terrorist suspect in Italy and taking him to a prison in Egypt, where he claims he was beaten and tortured. The Italian judge reached his verdict based on evidence that the CIA often uses harsh treatment and even torture to obtain information from suspected terrorists. The CIA claims that the information they obtain using these methods often prevents terrorist attacks and saves lives. Should the CIA continue to kidnap, imprison, and harshly question suspected terrorists, even if their methods of obtaining information border on torture? why or why not?
