Why aren't guys honest when they are not interested?

a guy asked me on a date, but when it came to arranging it he just stopped texting-why didn't he tell me he'd changed his mind instead of just rudely ignoring me? I know a lot of girls have found this with guys-just be honest! we'll get over over it, better than leaving us hanging and feeling stupid.
